Largest Natural Lake of Iowa

Clear Lake is the largest natural lake in Iowa. Like many other lakes of Iowa, the lake was created by the vast shelves of melting glaciers over 14,000 years ago.

The lake’s clear, spring-fed waters cover a total of 3,684 acres. It has an average depth of 10 feet but can be as deep as 19 feet. The 14-mile shoreline is shared by houses, businesses, a state park, and nature preserves.

Visitors have access to five boat launches and ten boat slips. If you do not have a boat, three marinas on Clear Lake offer a variety of rentals.

Once you get out on the beautiful waters of Clear Lake, you will never want to leave.

Lake goers can enjoy a wide variety of activities, including pontooning, speedboating, water skiing, jet skiing, fishing, and kayaking.

Clear Lake is one of the Midwest’s best sailing locations, known for its seven-mile stretch of water and constant winds. The lake hosts sailboat races every weekend of the summer months.

The lake is stocked with walleye, channel catfish, northern pike, muskie, and flathead catfish. Anglers can fish from their boats or choose from 15 public boat docks along the shore.

Clear Lake City Beach, Clear Lake State Park Beach, and McIntosh Woods State Beach provide sandy shores for sunning, swimming, and relaxing.

Clear Lake State Park and McIntosh Woods State Park offer lake access, excellent campsites, beaches, hiking trails, and picnic grounds.

Golfers love playing the Oak Hills Par 30 Course featuring beautiful landscapes and well-maintained greens.
